Do business owners need a 20% deposit?

No. A 20% deposit avoids Lenders Mortgage Insurance, but some lenders will go to 90% LVR for business owners with a clean two-year history, though the income assessment is tighter at higher LVRs. First home buyers who own a business can also use the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme, which has an $850,000 Perth price cap.

What if my business has only been running for a year?

Two years of trading is the standard, but one year is sometimes accepted, particularly where you have experience in the same industry. Fewer lenders are available with a shorter history, so knowing who to approach matters.
